Journey to forgotten kingdoms

Minerva has teamed up with top tour operator Peten Travels to offer all our readers the chance to win a fabulous archaeological tour around the heart of ancient Asia Minor, led by a specialist guide and distinguished scholars

The Hittites and Phrygians is a 16-day holiday, running from 6 to 21 July 2012. As booking for this trip is limited to only 10 people, your experience following this exciting itinerary is bound to be a very personal and special one.

You will begin your tour in the great city of Istanbul, heart of the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires, where you will visit the Ancient Orient Museum before flying on to Ankara, capital of modern Turkey, to see the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations.

It is in Anatolia that the history of humanity began and its people have played a major role in the history of many great civilisations. During the tour you will visit Çatalhöyük, one of the earliest towns in the world, discover how the art of the Hittites developed from a cross-fertilisation of the cultures of the indigenous Hattic and immigrant Indo-European peoples, and explore the picturesque territories of Central Asia Minor, where the Phrygians created their great civilisation.
